Privacy Policy

As you use our services, we want you to be clear how we are using information.

Our Privacy Policy explains:

We strive to collect a minimal amount of information about our visitors. That said, we do collect information to operate our site, defend against attacks, diagnose technical issues, generate aggregate reports of visitor traffic statistics for our advertisers, and identify ways to improve our site and provide better services to all of our users.

Information we collect

Information we collect falls into two primary categories:

  • Information you give us. For example, in the future, some of our services may require you to sign up for a Flat.Bio Account. When you do, we will ask for personal information, like your name, email address, or billing information.

  • Information we get from your use of our services. We may collect information about the services that you use and how you use them, like when you interact with our website.

    • Web server logs. In the normal process of interacting with a Flat.Bio web site, our web servers log requests. Information collected may include device-specific information (such as your IP address, referral URL, hardware model, operating system version, and browser software version). These logs are generally used to ensure the health of the service and are subject to a short retention period.

    • Web analytics logs. When you visit Flat.Bio, we automatically collect and store certain information about your visit. This may include:

      • details of how you used our service.
      • Internet protocol address (IPv4 addresses are anonymized by masking the low-order 2 bytes).
      • Geo location (based on the masked IP address)
      • browser type, browser language, the date and time of your request and referral URL.
      • cookies that may uniquely identify your browser

We use information collected from cookies and other technologies to improve your user experience and the overall quality of our services.

How long we retain this information

Data retention depends on the information and where it is collected.

Server Logs.

We generally retain server logs for up to 10 days. Circumstances where we may retain this information longer includes:

  • site testing,
  • diagnosis of technical problems,
  • defending against attacks to the site,
  • handling a spike in traffic or other abnormal, short-term circumstances, or
  • internal projects (where we use anonymized server logs) to improve the website.

In those and similar situations we will delete the information as soon as it is apparent that the information is no longer needed for the purpose for which it was retained.

Web Analytics Logs

We generally retain web analytics logs (using anonymized IP address / geo locations) for up to 6 months.

Using this data, we generate anonymized, aggregate reports that we may keep indefinitely. For example, the total number of visits per week per country.

Similarly, we may share aggregate information about the number of visitors per country per week with potential advertisers to our site.

We may share personal information in connection with an acquisition, merger, or sale of all or a substantial portion of our business, with or to another company. In any such event, you will receive notice if your data is transferred and becomes subject to a substantially different privacy policy.
